SGL Supports Academic Research into Body Cameras

A number of SGL personnel took part in a study conducted by Lauren McNair of Edinburgh Napier University into the influence of body-worn cameras within the night time economy.

As part of an Honours project for the School of Applied Sciences, Lauren is conducting research to investigate the experiences of Door Supervisors when using a body worn camera.

"Body worn cameras are an increasingly popular form of personal surveillance for public servants – including Door Supervisors – to ensure their safety and provide evidence in the event of an incident."

Lauren's research project for Edinburgh Napier University aims to establish whether a change in behaviour is observed where a body camera is being used – including changes in how security personnel behave and how people respond when they are being recorded.

SGL Area Supervisor Robert Vint, who played a key role in supporting the research with his team commented on its importance.

"Studies like these can help private security organisations such as SGL to identify effective security practices, allowing us to maximise the positive impact we can have on the safety of the public.

"SGL is proud to contribute to a greater understanding of important security issues and supports original, impactful research such as Lauren's."

Research plays an essential role in understanding the impact of new practices, new technology, and the development of best practice.

The core aim of SGL is ensuring the safety of the public; the organisation will continue to evaluate and implement technological innovations which support this aim.

All research was conducted professionally, in adherence with the ethical guidelines of the British Psychology Society, and with full ethical approval from Edinburgh Napier University.
